Hello every one, thought i would toss up a post and give a little update as to whats going on with the forum extension.
No, i have not forgot about the project
Like said in other threads, i have a large project with my home; building an addition and doing it all by my lonesome - so that leaves me little time to do any thing else.
For the last few months, with the little free time i did/do have, ive been trying to "learn" linux (Ubuntu dist.). While doing this ive come too see that it will help out with the forum. While learning some simple scripting (mainly Perl) to automate tasks in Ubuntu, ive come to see that these tools will help updating the forum much, much easier and leave less room for error. The scripts which ive been writing will not effect you, just make my life a little easier, and for the most part they are done. While creating these scripts there will be a change to the language portion of the forum, that change will require a bit of work to the forum code and im starting that right now.
So... the forum is not forgotten and im preparing for the long furture of it, so please be patient
Hopefully in a month or so there will be a new update with a couple fixes, a few more bugs, finished options along with a couple new features.
Thanks to all who have stuck around and welcome to all new users.

update
|
Over the last few days i started to work on SQLite support for the Forum extension (there have been acouple people asking abuot it and it also seams that SQLite is becoming more popular).
Once the SQLite is working, there will be a final Beta Release (a newsletter will be sent out to everyone) which will have a few more FIX's and finish off all non-working AdminCP options.

After getting SQLite support working (SQLite will be introduced in the next beta release), i desided to try and get PostgreSQL working, which is gonna take alittle work.
Because of short-sightedness on my part, alot of SQL queries through-out the forums code will have to be changed. This is something which i have started, but its gonna take awhile.
So... its gonna be a little while before the next beta will be released.

After hours of changes and trouble shooting, the forum will installing to the following databases, MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL.
There is still alot more work to do before the forum functions with PostgreSQL, working on that now.

Still working on the database compatibility issues (MySQL, SQLite and PostgreSQL).
Found a new obstacle, the dbase column names. It seams that Postgre does not like capital letters which is cause some problems. There are some column names which have upper case letters in them, the query's are working fine, but when the results are returned there is a problem, working on fix that now.
Will keep updating this thread as time goes on, a Newsletter will be sent out then the next release is ready.

Still finding little SQL bugs under PostgreSQL (mySQL is still working along with sqlite), but im about 98% sure its fully working with PostgreSQL now.
Did more work on the perl package script im working (that has nothing to do with "you", local script im working on to package the .tar.gz files to make my life easier down the road).
The main thing which are left is testing 2.5.8 on different version of Wiki to see what is compatible with, and running the update script on all the older versions of the forum to make sure that's all still working correctly.
Hopfully in a few weeks a Newsletter will be sent out, and for the forum will finally pulled out of Beta and will become the main download.

OK, hopefully over the next day or so the 2.5.8 beta will be released.
Every thing is working except for the update process from 2.4.1, running into a bug with that.
As soon as that goes smoothly a newsletter will be sent out.
