Hi,
I've installed the AWC Forum extension 2.4 under MediaWiki 1.11.2 and would like some help in the following areas.
1) I am using the monobook skin for MediaWiki. Is there any way I can get the AWC Forum pages to have borders on the tables? I see the awc.css file but changing it makes no difference. If I look at the page source for the forum pages there is no border called out in any of the tables.
2) I am unable to delete a post or a thread. If I hover over the 'delete' and 'delete thread' links, in the browser status bar I see only 'javascript:void(0);' This is the same for IE 8 and Firefox 3.0.11. How can I delete threads?
3) I added an avatar for myself but I don't see it in any of my postings. How can I get the avatars to display?
4) The Last Post column shows on the front forum page in the column heading, but there is no date listed for any of the posts. How can I get the last post dates to show?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Elmo

Hello Elmo...
Im gonna answer your questions alittle out of order.
First, if you can post a link to your forum it would be easyer, if its a private wiki, you can PM me a link, i will keep it private.

You need to have javascript enabled in what ever browser you are using.

This makse me think there is a cashe issue, if you make changes to the awc.css file, it should be seen and if when you changed your Avatar and did not receive any error messages, then it seams like a cashe issuae with your browser or wiki or server/host.

Not sure what you mean by this...
All posts within threads have borders around the tables.
Do you want to put a border around the whole forum page ?
Can you take a screen shot and then edit it in a picture program to show what you want to do ?

I do not have 2.4.x installed on an wikis right now, i will check this out when i get some free time.
If you have just installed the forum, you might be better off tring the Beta 2.5.x, it has alot more options and if pretty stable, its just missing some Admin Options.

My replies to your comments below are probably superseded by this; I found these messages in my apache error log
[Thu Jun 18 13:07:12 2009] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] File does not exist: /var/lib/mediawiki/extensions/awc, referer: http://xxx.xxx.net/mediawiki/index.php/Special:AWCforum
I followed the MediaWiki documents when I setup this site. The installation does not have the extension directory under /var/lib/mediawiki. It is under /var/www/mediawiki so this may explain much of my problem. However, I can not find where /var/lib is being referenced in any of the config or php files.
LocalSettings.php sets $IP to be /var/www/mediawiki. I see the same var $IP being used in /var/www/mediawiki/extensions/awc/forums/awc_forum.php so I don't understand where this is going wrong.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks

Unfortunately, my forum site is internal to our network. Our IT guy is on vacation, so I am not able to punch any holes or anything...

I do have javascript enabled. This happens on two web clients on each firefox and IE8. All have javascript enabled.

I cleared my cache, exited and also tried another browser. The avatar does not appear on my posts. This may have something to do with the same issue with table borders.

I'd like to wait until 2.5 is released for my main site. I might try it out on another.

Fixed borders and delete
|
Hi,
Being too impatient, I took it upon myself to move my extensions directory to /var/lib/mediawiki and create a sym link to it under /var/www/mediawiki. That immediately solved the borders and delete function problems.
And I see no more error messages in my log. However, the Last Post and avatar are still missing.

I tried deleting and resetting my avatar with a new upload, but no change is apparent.

Glad you have it partial working.
Humm... i know very little about linux so im no help to you there (but i see you created a work-around). After reading your posts it makes sence. The forum has a javascript file also which helps out deleting threads and posts (along with mouse/menu hovers, etc.). With the css edits not being displayed and the javascript not working along with the server log you posted above, it seams like the .css and .js files where not loading because of the path problem.
Just like you would in a normal wiki page/article:

I know the feeling, sorry i could not respond sooner.
Do you have any other Extensions installed, extensions which require multpul-files ?
Im thinking you might what to "flip" you work-around - around and create the symlink in the /lib/ and point to the /www/ dir, reason being; if you install other extensions your probably gonna want them all in the same place, the standard /wiki-root/extensions/ dir.

With the new light shed of the file path problem, can you post the HTML source to a thread page where your avatar should be displayed ?
Maybe the forum is trying to read from the wrong path.

missing avatar - html
|
You said you did not know linux, but just in case you're interested; I am using Ubuntu Hardy. I installed MediaWiki via a debian package. The installation ended up creating /var/www/mediawiki containing sym links to other locations (mostly /usr/share/mediawiki) and only 3 local directories. One of which was "extensions"
Also, I did previously successfully install the extension for DynamicPageList. It has only one file.
I noticed that the directory /var/lib/mediawiki/extenstions did exist, but only had the original README file in it, so I made the adjustment I described yesterday.
Anywhoo...
Hey, I just noticed that in Special:AWCforum/?action=admin/mem_lookup it does not seem to be saving the string that I 'Upload'
Okay, I guess it does not take .png files. Now it works fine.
So the only issue is the Last Post column being empty. I am willing to live with that for now and I'll upgrade later.
Thanks for your help and the great extension!
