[edit] Features
Here is a general description of all the features that can be found within the AWC Forum extension.
Some of the features described here are covered further in detail in other sections of this manual.
[edit] Categories
Categories are what hold the forums. They are just a way of organising everything into descriptive folders, small forums may only require one category, which folds all the forums, but larger forums require many catagories as their may be many forums that are related, but specific in their own right, hence can be grouped together in a catagory.
[edit] Forums
Forums are what hold the threads. They are a way of further organising everything, but is generally much more specific than a catagory
[edit] Threads
Thread are individual topics held within the forums. There subject is generally related to the subject of the forum. They allow users to post topics and recieve and post replys, adding to the discussion.
The title of a thread is usually short, but descriptive of the topic discussed within. The description of a thread is usually longer than the title, to give a viewer a more detailed explanation of the topic discussed within
There are different kinds of threads:
- Normal
- Stickies
- Locked
- Announcements
[edit] Stickies
Stickies are threads that have been made a stickie by a moderator. The result of this is the thread remains at the top of the containing forum, so to be highly visable to forum viewers. Threads are generally made stickies due to either being important, or very popular or usefull.
[edit] Locked
A locked thread, is a thread that cannot be posted in by normal users. A moderator or admin may still post in locked threads. The purpose of a locked thread, is generally the result of either a topic going off-topic, becoming abusive, or the discussion within is contary to the rules or purpose of the site in general.
[edit] Announcements
Announcements are threads that sit above all the other threads, and also found in every forum, located in its own table. The purpose of announcements is simular to stickys, but of more importance, as they show in every forum at the very top, as opposed to stickys, which only show at the top of the threads in its own forum.
[edit] Posts
A post is an individual contribution to a thread by a user, for the purpose of adding to the conversation discussed within the thread.
