[edit] General Options

[edit] Signature

Signatures are a way for a member to either (or both), provide a custom message to others that can show in all their posts (or less) and may be used for either a personal message or 'brand/logo', as well as advertising of sorts (depending on the rules stipulated by the site admin)

A member also has the options of not displaying signatures at all, if they dont want to see other members signatures, or displaying signatures but only once per thread per member, so to limit its visability/space use.

To include a signature, a member would take the following steps:

  1. Select the 'members options' tab located at the top of the page, to enter the members section
  2. Enter the desired text into the text input box located at the bottom of the page
  3. Click the 'Submit' button
  4. Tick the 'Display Signatures' check box located at the top of the page (if not already, on by default)
    1. If desired, tick the 'Display Signatures Only Once Per-thread' check box if signature is to be viewed only once per thread
  5. Click the 'Submit' button
  6. Done, the result will be viewable immediatley in the refreshed screen, as well in any post the user has made

Note: If there are any restrictions placed by the forum admin, they will display within the members options section, such as the maximum letters aloud for the signature, and the total letters currently being used.

[edit] Avatar

A member has the ability to:

  • Upload an avatar directly to the forum
  • Upload an avatar to the wiki, and link to it using a wiki img tag (admin permissions dependent)
  • URL link to an avatar from an external website (admin permission dependent)

Some of the avatar uploading/URL linking ability's will be limited by the hosts restrictions on the server, so the forum admin may not be able to provide, hence the alternative methods available.

[edit] Uploading direct to the forum

A member may use the forum upload feature to have their own avatar

To upload an avatar to the forum, and display it, a member would take the following steps:

  1. Select the 'members options' tab located at the top of the page, to enter the members section
  2. Click the 'Browse' button
  3. Select the chosen file from the users personal computer
  4. Click the 'Open' button, selecting the file
  5. Click the 'Submit' button
  6. Tick the 'View Avatars' check box (if not already, on by default)
  7. Done, the result will be viewable immediately in the refreshed screen, as well in any post the user has made

Note: The admin may place restrictions on the avatar height, width and file size.

[edit] Upload to the wiki

A member may upload to the wiki, and link to the pic using a wiki img tag. The drawback of this method is being a pic on the wiki, other people may be able to edit or change it, so its not protected, unlike uploading to the forum directly, which is protected from others.

To upload an avatar to the wiki, and display it, a member would take the following steps:

  1. Click the 'Upload file' link located in the wiki sidebar, toolbox
  2. Click the 'Browse' button
  3. Select the chosen file from the users personal computer
  4. Click the 'Open' button, selecting the file
  5. Click the 'Upload file' button
  6. Note the address of the saved image eg. Image:Example.jpg
  7. Select the 'members options' tab located at the top of the page, to enter the members section
  8. Input the address of the image in the top avatar input box, just above the 'Submit' button, encasing the address in wiki img tags eg. [[Image:Example.jpg]]
  9. Click the 'Submit' button
  10. Tick the 'View Avatars' check box (if not already, on by default)
  11. Done, the result will be viewable immediately in the refreshed screen, as well in any post the user has made

Note: If there are any restrictions placed by the forum admin, such as not being aloud to use wiki img tags, they will display within the members options section. Also the admin may place restrictions on the avatar height, width and file size.

[edit] URL Link

A member may have an avatar by providing the URL address where the avatar/picture is hosted. This is dependent on the admin allowing it, and may not be possible at all depending on the hosts restrictions.

To URL link an avatar, and display it, a member would take the following steps:

  1. Select the 'members options' tab located at the top of the page, to enter the members section
  2. Input the URL address where the image is hosted in the top avatar input box, just above the 'Submit' button
  3. Click the 'Submit' button
  4. Tick the 'View Avatars' check box (if not already, on by default)
  5. Click the 'Submit' button
  6. Done, the result will be viewable immediately in the refreshed screen, as well in any post the user has made

Note: If there are any restrictions placed by the forum admin, such as not being able to URL link, they will display within the members options section. Also the admin may place restrictions on the avatar height, width and file size.
